jenID Solutions optimizes AI-based photo ID verification as an alternative to the video ID process

jenID Solutions’ approach to ID verification is an alternative to previous ID verification methods. While traditional methods such as video or Post-Ident have proven to be time-consuming, user-unfriendly and associated with a high bounce rate, the company relies on deep-learning technologies and artificial intelligence.

With the jenID platform, the verification of ID documents and matching with the user is possible by means of facial recognition, face comparison and the active life recognition of the person to be verified. The verification process is fully automated in all steps and is therefore significantly faster, more user-friendly and more secure than document authentication by untrained personnel.

How Document Verification Works with Genuine ID

jenID Solutions offers a convenient identity verification in real time by smartphone, tablet or computer. The person to be verified takes a photo with a camera of the front and back of their required identification document (ID card, passport, driver’s license, etc.). The picture is sent to jenID’s global database and checked for numerous security features. All servers are located in Germany and are subject to German data protection laws.

If the authenticity of a document has been confirmed by the data comparison, the system checks whether it is also the person specified on the document. The person is asked to look into the camera. The facial features are compared with those on the document photo. The Liveness Detection is then performed by means of movements in order to verify that the person is alive. This prevents fraudsters from holding other people’s photos up to the camera and stealing their identities.

Deep-learning AI models expand verification capabilities

The jenID platform solution is continuously becoming more precise and secure through the use of deep learning processes. For document verification, life detection and facial comparison, jenID uses artificial intelligence trained specifically for this purpose. In this way, the software prevents deception in the verification process through, for example, scans of screenshots or paper copies of documents. In doing so, the system also reliably detects mouth-nose protective masks to avoid capturing the facial image in this case, thus reducing the rate of incorrect verifications.

German legislation lagging behind technical progress

Only recently, this procedure repeatedly hit the headlines, as the Chaos Computer Club successfully hacked six Video-Ident providers.
